In Galatians chapter 3, the apostle Paul calls the Galatians foolish for having forgotten that “before their very
eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified.” What’s interesting is that in all likelihood, the people Paul was talking to had never been present when Christ was crucified; their physical eyes had never seen Christ crucified.
So what is Paul talking about? When Paul preached the gospel to them, the Holy Spirit opened their spiritual
eyes to the beauty of what Christ had done for them on the cross. They spiritually saw the crucified Christ, they saw the nails driven through his hands and feet, they heard his ragged breathing, they heard the taunts of the crowd.
They went from just knowing about Jesus and his death and resurrection to seeing and tasting it.
They became enlightened. Paul goes on to say that unless we continue in the Spirit to see the crucified Christ,
we will not mature in our faith. Easter is the ideal time to reflect and ask that same question, “Am I seeing the crucified Christ? Is it real to me or have I relegated it to the past as a relic?” Don’t miss this Thursday and Sunday as we prepare our hearts for Easter and ask God to help us truly see the crucified Christ.
"After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled,
said, “I thirst!”. Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!”
And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit." (John 19:28-30)
